The Little Village

It's been a while since we've tried some new to us restaurants. I guess this one isn't quite new to me, but I haven't been in YEARS and when I've had it recently it's only been as catering at events. I used a 225 Best Eats deal as an excuse to take kiddo and go to The Little Village.

Now, part of why we have not been since we moved back here is the price. Like most nice Italian restaurants, it's a little pricy. However, since this was partially to celebrate kiddo moving on to high school and I had a deal, I decided we could splurge a lot more than we normally would.

Kiddo and I like to do a sampling of appetizers and desserts sometimes so that was our approach here. We opted for 4 appetizers, the city famous bread, a cup of a soup and two desserts with cappuccinos to complete our meal. Here's what we thought.

We started with the bread. You do have to pay for bread here, but trust me, you're going to want to. What you don't want to do is pay for the red sauce to go with it. It's fine by itself and in the olive oil. The red sauce didn't really add much, and in fact I thought it took away from how good the bread really was.

Next we got a cup of lobster bisque. This didn't look like how we expected it to look at all. We could taste the lobster flavor, even though we didn't get too much actual lobster in the bisque. The flavor was good and there was a surprising heat to it, which honestly made me want to keep eating it.

Next up were our appetizers. We ordered the seared ahi tuna, the eggplant stacks, the toasted ravioli and the beef manicotti. However, they were out of the manicotti so our waiter suggested the seafood stuffed mushrooms.

Kiddo really wanted the tuna, so she mainly ate that. However, I did try a bite and it had really good flavor and practically melted in my mouth. I never expect eggplant stacks to be done as sticks instead of circles, so it always catches me off guard when they bring it to the table. These were also really good.

The toasted ravioli was what you would expect, so not really much to say on that. The seafood stuffed mushrooms though ... OMG. I'm so glad that Joel recommended these because they were my favorite of all the appetizers that we ordered. I'm not a big mushroom fan, but I gladly ate these and would order them again. My complaint is that there are only three ... and I was sharing them, haha.

Now on to the desserts. If there is a crème Brule on the menu, it's going to be ordered. This is my favorite dessert and this one was perfection. The Italian Brownie Cake was also deliciously rich. Next time we come, I may just come and sample multiple desserts because there were quite a few I that I want to try but if I have to pick those two will always be my choices.

Do you like doing just appetizers and desserts for a meal? A little sampling of a lot of things? What are your thoughts on crème Brule?
