May is finally over! I feel like I've been thinking it's the last week for the past 3 weeks but we finally made it to the unofficial start of summer. So here's the weekly recap.
HIGH: There was so much chasing the fun this week!
LOW: Our air conditioner went out, but we got that fixed. Between my car, our air conditioner and the ice machine in our freezer breaking down, it's been a banner week over at the Hungry House.
HA: My coworker has a habit of walking into my office when some spicy books I'm listening to get to a spicy part and this week he started asking if we were at a spicy part before he walked in.
COOL EATS: Not an eat, but I am OBSESSED with these drink mixes from Craft Mix! I got the variety pack to try because I have been targeted with them all over my social media. I've mixed each of these with different Olipops: Strawberry Mule with Ginger Ale, Mango Margarita with Lemon Lime, Blood Orange Mai Tai with Orange Squeeze, and Passionfruit Paloma with Lemon Lime. I can't wait to order some more because the black cherry old fashioned mix is calling my name!
CHASE THE FUN:
Yelpers Do Tacos! Our Yelp Elite event this month was at a local Mexican restaurant and while the tacos were just ok, the margaritas were amazing and the appetizers they brought out were more than enough. My favorites were the corn dip and the chipotle shrimp.
Kiddo & Mom Outing: Kiddo and I spent a day at a local maker's market, where we both said we were just going to look and ended up leaving with multiple items. We followed that up with a trip to our local paint your own pottery studio. I can't wait to see how these come out in a few weeks!
LAST READ: So many good books to share from this week's reading adventures! Autopsy of a Fairy Tale is one that I got my top shelf friends (friends on the top floor of our office building) to read too! I can't wait to debrief with them. It did make me go on a mini-rant about how not every story needs a romance plot thrown in, but I got over it once I got to the end.
Nugget is the last, or latest as teased by the author in the Unlocked Mates series and it did not disappoint! I've been waiting for Gavin to meet his mate and this was the book my coworker walked in on me reading while eating my lunch and while it wasn't a spicy scene, I launched into the whole plot line for him which was not what he expected when I said our main characters are stalking each other and one of them just changed the game!
The Manny's Fiery Dragon Bond was my latest read in the Heat Prey Love series. I love a Wade/Hart cowritten book because they are such feel goods even with some tension. Throw in a dragon who lots his mate to death and has now found a much younger second chance mate and is struggling with whether fate could really give him another mate and the waterworks took over. Such a sweet book.
A Touch of Maple is the latest in a new series that many of the indie authors I love on KU are participating in, Love in Maplewood. We have a brother's professional rival romance and this one was so well written that I couldn't stop once I started. I needed to see these two through ... uninterrupted.
Well, it's almost time for my favorite part of summer - the Boys and Girls Summer Reading program! This year, I've decided to ditch
Dragons Love Tacos &
Secret Pizza Party and am on the hunt for new books that grades K-5 can enjoy. I may have gone a little overboard with requests from my local library, so I have to work through these to see if I have some true contenders in this pile. Wish me luck!
