When Fate Forces Coincidence
I had mixed feelings going into this book. I’m not a big fan of forced proximity, so I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it. However, I was excited about this book because not only does it feature characters in their 40s, but it features a female main character in what is seen as a traditionally male role. Jenny is the proud owner of Jenny’s Auto. In a previous life she was an artist and worked at an art gallery, so this is a career shift that not many people would see coming. When she shows up to tow a car back to her shop and it’s her ex Chase, both of them feel like the universe is seriously screwing with them. The unfolding of Jenny and Chase’s past was slow but emotionally layered, and very well written. Jenny opening up to two women who happen to be at a yoga retreat about why she feels like her business can’t fail is a very touching scene and so relatable for a woman in the business world. Chase runs through the gamut of emotions as he slowly sees that the life he wants to live isn’t the life that he has been chasing while convincing himself it’s the one he wants/needs. “You played by their rules. You did all the things they asked. Are you happy?” Watching Chase struggle with these words was gut wrenching. His struggle and stubbornness was well written. If you’re a fan of second chances, you should definitely check this book out.
