Train Chronicles: The Long Ride Home

Our travel day to come home did not go as smoothly as the travel day to start the trip. I'll rewind a little bit to say that we realized that Beyonce was still in town and her last show in Atlanta was the day before we were heading out. I decided to be smart and reserve an Uber in advance, so that way we wouldn't be fighting concert goers heading home in the morning for rides.

Smart, right? It was ... until we didn't see the notification from Amtrak that our train was delayed 3 1/2 hours. We had already checked out of the room and it was too late to cancel our Uber, so we say in the Atlanta Amtrak station forever. And just in case you were wondering, they do not have comfy seating...think church pews with no cushions.

Look, I'm super glad that safety is a priority and that the reason for the delay was that there were trees down on the tracks and not something more serious. But the Hungry fam was just ready to be home at this point in the journey.

There were no station by station picture updates coming home because we were done. Instead, I completed 3 more bookmarks and finished 3 books, with a 4th one started. I ate lots of snacks and for dinner Mom and I gave up on eating real food and decided we just wanted a junk food dinner. See the dinner of champs - Doritos and Skittles, haha.

When we got into New Orleans, that train could not deboard fast enough! Everyone was sprinting to get off, and most people because they were trying to get to their hotels before midnight so they didn't lose their reservations.

Since we drove and had our car waiting in the parking lot, we let those people book it out first. Originally, we were scheduled to be back home in Baton Rouge around 11pm, and we got back around 1am. Not too bad considering the delay was a lot longer than the 2 hours and change the train was late.

Stay tuned for my last post on the Train Chronicles for my overall opinion of this Amtrak vacation package.
