As a female who works in the sports industry, I have been anxious for this book to come out. Normally I cannot do sports romances because if the involve a female who works for the team with one of the athletes, in my head I just can't fathom a woman who worked to hard to get into this industry risk her career for a guy. I was a little nervous in general due to the nature of the characters being a team owner and a journalist with an assignment to cover the team.
I started and finished reading this one on my lunch break because it was so good that I couldn’t make myself stop.
I love that Rebecca is the owner of a professional hockey team. While the dream was to own the team with her dad, she still follows through with the dream for both of them. When she is introduced to the team and the press, she is met with a blast from the past. Zach, her old boyfriend who played hockey for her father, is now a journalist.
I’ve never really been the kind of person to pick a book boyfriend, but Zach is mine, hands down. He raised his sister’s daughter after she passed away, and once he sees Rebecca again, there isn’t anything more important to him than helping her succeed with her dreams.
I think the author did a very good job of writing an honest depiction of what it can be like for a female in working sports, especially in a position of authority. From the way the GM responds to Rebecca’s decisions to the way Zach knows she doesn’t need him to stand up for her, he chooses to stand beside her when needed, and behind her to let her shine. I usually don’t enjoy sports romances that involve a female who works for a team, because I feel that most aren’t written realistically, so it was refreshing for this one to feel authentic.
