Last week was an amazing week of bestie bonding! The trip had lots of ideas thrown around before hand, but was mainly a vibes trip. The big thing on the itinerary was Fourth Wing Night at Fenway. We had VIP tickets (more on that in the next trip post) and everything else we discussed was kind of a loose plan.
It was an early morning leaving since my flight left New Orleans at 6:20, so I was running on fumes and coffee when I landed around noon. Our initial idea was that I would book us on a tiki boat for that evening. However, when I went to book it, the one we knew for a fact we could make was already sold out. So I booked us on a morning mimosa cruise and set out to start our adventures.
As you can see, the adventures started at the Dunkin at the airport where a cereal latte helped get me back in the vacation mindset.
As we were waiting for our hotel shuttle, I got a notification from the Joyraft app that I had downloaded. Joyraft is an app that basically tells you about things going on in the Boston area. I figured we could look over it while we were eating lunch and maybe form a game plan. The push notification said that All Time Low was performing a free pop up concert at a local brewery at 5pm, with doors opening at 4pm. The universe had sent us our game plan: check-in to the hotel, eat some lunch, and head down by Fenway to get in line.
We stayed at the LaQuinta in Sommerville, which was about 20 minutes from the airport. The hotel is older, but well taken care of. I think it's proximity to Assembly Row is what has helped it survive. Assembly Row has shops, restaurants, bars, and most importantly a T stop.
When we checked in, I noticed next to the menus at the front desk was a list labelled "Sandi's Picks". Sandi had gone all out. She had picks for restaurants that delivered to the hotel, she had picks in Assembly Row if you wanted to stay close, she had picks in Boston, and she had picks or places that you could Door Dash. She also suggested some items that she would pick at each restaurant.
We decided to try one of Sandi's picks for lunch - Fuji, which is an Asian fusion restaurant that was in Assembly Row. Sandi recommended the lobster Rangoon and it did not disappoint. I opted for the gluten free bento box, to try and be a little healthier, and it was way more food than we anticipated. We could have shared a bento box between the two of us with how much food we left.
After that, we made our way over to Cisco Brewery to stand in line for the concert. We were surprised at how many people were already in line seeing as it was during a work day. We made our way in at 5pm and posted up at a really good spot. I didn't realize that Amelia hadn't really heard much of their stuff, but she enjoyed it. She loves live music, so she's always down for a concert. It was an acoustic set, and she said she thinks acoustic sets are a gateway to a rock or emo artist you haven't heard because if you like what you heard, you want to see what it sounds like when they go all out.
The band themselves were great! Musically they are sound, but the banter made it even better. The ease of being with people for as long as they have was evident and they could joke and tease like it was second nature while finishing each others thoughts. It was cute. I was surprised that I liked their new stuff as much as I did, and there will be more of that in future posts.
After the concert, we got the call that our morning mimosa boat didn't have enough people to go out, so we knew we would have to come up with a new game plan for the morning. We were already walking towards the sites we wanted to pop in and see, the Boston Public Library and the Make Way for Ducklings statue... because we're nerds 😂
Check back next time to see what we did in place of the Morning Mimosa boat ride and to get the scoop on Fourth Wing Night at Fenway!
