Boston - Day 2 ... Part 1

Day 2 in Boston started out with us trying to figure out what to do . With our Morning Mimosa boat cancelled, we had a lot of time to figure out how to fill ... but not too much time when we started doing the math backwards from when we planned to line up for Fourth Wing Night. We decided that we would stick to the plan of a boat, even though it would be a lot different than what we had planned.

We decided to take the ferry because it was covered in our Charlie pass that we had bought. It was a nice ride, and the dock hands didn't laugh too much when we asked to just get right back on and go back to where we came from.

I did learn that the Harbor was where we were for dinner last night and there was a T stop closer than where Google maps dropped us off, so I was a little miffed at Google for making me walk as far as it did.

After we got off the ferry, we decided to explore the Seaport area. Amelia had seen where there is a guy who makes custom Moleskine notebooks and we thought that would be a really cool souvenir of our trip. I also knew that the Travel Mug Cafe was over in Seaport and was planning to get us there as well.

On our walks, we stopped for breakfast at a burger place that also served breakfast (red flag 1) that was not one of Sandi's picks (red flag 2) and it was ok. Nothing to really talk about. The hash browns were obviously frozen ones and not even good frozen ones, and the biscuits came from a can ... and not like the good canned ones. It was ok, but we regretted not following Sandi's picks for breakfast.

After that, we made our way to the Travel Mug Cafe. Google Maps made us think we were lost, but it's tucked in the back of the building inside a small book store. I got the coffee flight, which they had switched to their autumn flavors and I wasn't sure how I would feel about that, but I actually liked them all.

From left to right we have toffee maple, apple cider, pumpkin and cinnamon roll. Amelia was laughing at me because I kept saying I wasn't sure how I felt about the apple cider, but it's the first one I finished. I think it was a chai, but it tasted literally just like cold apple cider. Magic!

The maple toffee was also one that I couldn't decide if I liked so I kept drinking it. You initially got just toffee flavor and the maple kind of hit after the fact.

I was surprised that I liked the pumpkin one because I didn't think I liked pumpkin ... turns out I just don't like the pumpkin spices.

The cinnamon roll one was exactly like I thought it would taste, but I was too high on coffee to finish it.

I also sent a couple of postcards home and can't wait for them to arrive! I think it's a cool that you can buy postcards from them and they will mail them for you. I got the ducklings for my mom and then the lobster roll one for kiddo.

After I finished my coffee flight and we wandered around the book store, we set off to find the Moleskine guy. While we didn't find him, we found his set up. We waited 10 minutes but since we were on a time crunch and there wasn't a sign on when he would be back, we didn't want to just wait around all day so we left and went to find some lunch.

I had seen on Instagram that Trident Booksellers was offering picnic baskets in the summer. 2 sandwiches, 2 chips, 2 cookie, 2 drinks and the red and white checkered cloth we all associate with picnics. I saw someone asked if they had a date they planned to stop selling them, and they were kind of playing it by ear and just said when the weather wasn't really good for it. We decided to go with that for lunch and honestly, it was SO MUCH FOOD!

The sandwiches were huge and we both ended up saying that we probably could have shared a sandwich and just gotten two orders of chips. Amelia got the tuna melt because you can't go wrong with that. The sandwich you see is mine, the cape codder. It has melted provolone, turkey, bacon, and cranberry mayo. What sold me on this sandwich was that it comes on Challah bread (I LOVE Challah bread 🤤)

I suggested that we picnic in the park that we saw that was close to Fenway and it turns out that the part that we saw is actually individually owned gardens in a big community garden set up. We did find an open spot under some trees and enjoyed our picnic before heading over to stand in line for Fourth Wing Night.

Up in the next post ... the whole Fourth Wing Night drama ...
