Happy Sunday! This week seemed to drag on while the weekend flew by. When football is on the road or there is a bye week during the season, work is a lot quieter. Kiddo also didn't have as many things to do after school this week, so it seemed like the week drug on.
The highlight of the week was kiddo's birthday and her birthday party. Kiddo turned 14 and it's crazy to me that I have a high school freshman and need to think about driver's ed and college. We had her party this weekend and it ended up being only the 3 boys she invited that showed up but they had a good time. The best part of parties at this age is that they just want to hang out. So they played board games, watched some anime and then took shots of lemonade while eating pizza, chicken strips and cookie cake.
Sunday Story Time
When I was working in Texas, Amelia and I would spend many a night out at Chili's. I think Chili's is a highly underrated, and they have some of the best salsa out of anywhere. Also, a triple dipper is probably one of the best things every invented - give me those mozzarella sticks, southwest egg rolls and I'll call an audible on that third option and I'm set for a great meal.
One night when we were there, it was a slower night, so we were chatting a little more with our waiter. He told us that he made mobiles. And I started asking about that and he was showing me pictures of some that he had made for other people. I asked him how much would it cost to commission a mobile from him. He said $20, and I said ok. He asked what colors we wanted, and I said red and white for the school we were working at. We settled on red and silver, because his artistic brain said it would look better.
I thought that I may have lost $20, but figured it was at least a nice trip for him. I never expected him to call me and say that he had the mobile ready. This was better than I could have expected, and unless the people who came into this office after us have taken it down, I'm choosing to believe that this mobile still hangs in the Lamar Athletic Ticket Office to this day.
Chasing the Fun
This week's chasing the fun moment was our monthly Yelp event. If you have a Yelp account, I highly recommend looking to see what events Yelp puts on your area. This month, we went to Rocco's and had a 5 course menu sampling that was enough food to fill me up!
Rocco's serves New Orleans style poboys, and other Cajun/Creole foods. We started out with a sampling from their best selling cold poboys; I went with turkey and provolone which is a classic and always slaps (as the kids say). Next, we had a build your own hot roast beef Po-Boy station. Roast beef is the best selling Po-Boy, and I love a good hot roast beef with all the juice dripping down and I need a roll of paper towels to clean my hands while eating.
Next up, we had our choice between gumbo and red beans. I split with one of my Yelp friends to be able to try both. The gumbo was ok, nothing really special. However, the red beans were some of the best I've ever had. We followed that up with friend catfish, which was delicious and I wish I had taken more. We then closed the meal out with bread pudding.
I can't wait to go back and bring my family so we can try some more things on the menu!
Cool Eats
Aside from the eats that I already spoke about with the cookie cake and all the deliciousness from Rocco's, the highlights food wise were this sausage and cheese kolache from Delicious Donuts (my standard Sunday breakfast) and this cheeseburger from Dearman's (one of our favorite spots).
I worked my way through my ARC list, and finished three of them this week. Two of these are part of series that I've been reading: Haunted Mediation is book 2 in the Conflict Mediation series and Taming is Vampire Mate is book 5 in the Blood Bonded Mate series; and the Drawn To You, is the first book in a spin-off series from one of my favorite series.
I also read three other books - Shopping for His Omega, which was a new release from a series I've been reading, Finding Archie which is part of season 2 of a series that I have been reading from and the Culture and Curiosities is a first in a spin-off series from another favorite.
This week is pretty busy, but I have a few ARCs I need to try and get through, as well as start to get really cracking on the novel I'm trying to write. Have a great week!
