Just Dance

Only I could accidentally sign up for a research study.

I have to log into myLSU every day to do our office deposits, so I always check out the ads for upcoming events around campus.

One day, there was one that advertised free dance classes for faculty and staff. The classes would be held from February to May, and would be held during traditional lunch hours.

Perfect! I figured this would be a great way to help kickstart one of my 75 mediums. I also loved taking Zumba back in the day, but haven't been able to make myself commit to joining a gym.

With so many fitness professionals posting free content on Youtube, I can't justify paying a gym membership. I know, for some people that makes them more accountable, but for me it did not once there was not a gym that was convenient for me to go to.

So I clicked the link for the free dance classes and there was this lengthy questionnaire, which seemed odd. Then I realized it was for a research study. I'm not confident that I actually finished filling out the form, but I got an email saying I was a participant.

Well, since I'm in, let's go! I then learned that the study would be divided between two groups, and each group would only have 6 weeks of classes.

Our first set of classes was this week (we have class twice a week), and I have to say that it's been a lot of fun!

At first I was nervous that it would be full of people who work out all the time, but it's a lot of people in the same boat as me who are using it to kickstart a habit. A few of the ladies in class told me that I have rhythm, so my years of Zumba must have taught me something!

I'm going to keep my eyes peeled to see if they offer this chance again in the summer, because it's been a nice break in my day, gotten me away from my desk, and so far I'm leaving class with a smile.

One week down, Julliard here I come! 😂
