Basically I just have bookish thoughts that need ranting about, so here we are. I know my friends are tired of hearing me go off on some of these rants, so I figured that's the point of having a blog. I do bookish rants here ... and probably on my TikTok, which my friends will then see. But at that point they can choose to engage in my rants if they feel like it.
So grab a drink, and let's get down to some bookish business.
Fourth Wing
I know, I'm SUPER late to the party on this one. Going to be honest that it was better than I expected. (I don't have high expectations for books that blow up on booktok 🤷 ) The audiobook narrator was great. I probably won't physically read this series, so I needed a good narrator to get me through it. So, here are my thoughts:
- I thought the ending was perfect for a series starter because now I feel like I have to read the second book to get some closure. (Although the reason I need closure has been pretty absent so far ...)
- Since I did start this series when the third book was coming out, my anger was only like an 8 because I don't have to wait for the second book. If I did have to wait, it would probably have been a 15.
- Honestly, even at the end of the book, still not a fan of most people except the dragons and Xayden. (and Liam)
- The sex banter is a little laughable to me. I'm aware I'm in the minority on this thought.
- I'm really upset about Liam. Like was glad I wasn't at the office because I cried over it.
- The main reason I'm reading the second book is because I want Violet to kick Brennan's ass, but I don't think she will.
- I'm actually starting to feel a tiny bit of sympathy towards Violet since nobody has ever let her actually try anything in her life.
- After the audiobook had two bonus chapters told from Xayden's POV, I really wish the book had been written in duel POV because now I want a book that's exclusively from his POV.
Random Thoughts:
I saw an ad for a book where the main character is a hockey player who is also head of the Italian mafia. I quickly swiped away because I know I could get sucked in and I have too many thoughts without reading it:
- When does he sleep? Both of those careers seem quite demanding.
- How can he truly protect his territory if he is on the road for a significant part of the year? Is that when the deals get done, at hotel bars?
- Are his mafia dealings an excuse to miss practices?
- Is the hockey career his cover?
- Is he even coachable? I feel like he could just fire/kill any coach or management who pisses him off?
Pet Peeve:
Because I am a sucker for a free book, I'm signed up for many indie author email lists. Nothing gets me irrationally angry like seeing an email that says a book is free, then clicking into the email to see that it's in Kindle Unlimited. My complaint is not that it's in KU, I make the most out of my subscription. My complaint is that KU is not free, you still have to pay for the service, so technically I am then still paying to read said book which makes it not free.
Stick around for more bookish thoughts. I've got lots of rants to get out.
