Summer Reading - Boys & Girls Club: Week 2

A little late to sharing this, but I had another week of reading to the kids at the Boys and Girls Club last week, and we had some new friends that I had to let know I could wait them out for them to finish their conversation before I started reading. The first choice didn't hit with the older kids as much, but the second one was a hit all around.

Chopsticks: This is the follow up book to Spoon that I read last time. Chopsticks do everything together, until one of them gets injured. After hanging out together post injury in bed for a week, the injured chopstick encourages his friend to go off and learn to stand on his own.

Chopstick isn't sure what he can do without his friend, but he starts to figure out ways he can play with all of his friends (soccer, pole vaulting, baking, etc) that by the time the other Chopstick is healed, he's discovered all sorts of new ways they can play with all of their friends together.

⭐⭐⭐1/2: It could have just been this group of kids weren't into it, but it hit with maybe 1/3 of them.

One Chicken Nugget. This one was SO good. Frank, the monster, loves chicken nuggets. But he especially loves Celeste's chicken nuggets. Celeste loves making chicken nuggets, but Frank is bad for her business. So she tries to figure out a way to make Frank sick of chicken nuggets - a contest!

Each contestant will start on day one with one chicken nugget, and then for the next 30 days, the amount of chicken nuggets they eat will double each day. If someone can eat them all, they'll get chicken nuggets for life!

Frank thinks this will be too easy, but his reactions get funny as the days progress and he realizes that it's not going to be as easy as he thought.  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
