June has flown by, which means summer is flying by. It's been super busy around here, but just from normal every day stuff and not necessarily anything out of the ordinary. So here we go, a little weekly recap.
HIGH: Our family trip to the beach. I told my parents that I was glad they waited to go with me because it was a really great weekend. The beach, the aquarium, a play, good food, a cute Airbnb, it was perfect.
LOW: First world problems, but we weren't able to leave for our quick beach trip until I got off of work. We didn't get there until 9pm on Friday, and had to leave by 10am on Sunday, so the trip just wasn't long enough.
HA: So, our church had a karaoke session and kiddo and I crushed it. We did Bop to the Top and had a dance routine that was roughly based on the movie and vibes. We both committed to the performance so it was fun and hilarious for anyone there because they have never seen that side of me.
COOL EATS
I was able to introduce a few of my friends to one of my favorite foods from the a local pop up! Oni 225, which serves onigiri, but also serves this gem of a thing called a sno dog. It's a hot dog with snow crab. We also made it spicy, which added some spicy mayo and siracha.
I know it seems like the combo wouldn't work, but if you're ever in Baton Rouge, trust me you need to hunt them down and get one of these. My friends were skeptical, but they had some happy plates so I take it that they liked it just as much as I did.
CHASE THE FUN
One of my favorite parts of volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club, is the lunch they do between the volunteers and the kids. It's a PB&J lunch, and it's fun to get to talk to the kids and learn about their lives. The girls I was sitting with had big families, and they thought it was funny that I didn't. They had games for us to play, and we spent time doing the word jumble, playing tik-tac-toe, doing word searches and coloring. All in all it was a great break from work.
We also did the beach again, but in Mississippi this time. It was just a quick weekend trip, and the cottage we stayed in was super cute. As I said earlier, the food, the beach, it was a great trip. Plus I got to see one of my friends who was also randomly at the aquarium!
WEEKLY ROUND-UP
Volunteer: Another reading day at the Boys & Girls Club. Only one more reading day left, and I really need to get to picking some books out for it.
Craft Time: I'm back at it with the diamond painted bookmarks, but these have dragons. I really like these a lot. One down, three to go!
Latest Read: Animal Farm by George Orwell. I love this one, and it checked off a summer reading bingo box. I only have a few squares left, so I'm trying to work through them. While mixing in books from my TBR.
Scoop Me Up by Riley Long, the latest in the Love in Maplewood series that I've been working through was my fun read of the week. These low-angst love stories are just super cute.
Currently Reading: The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Kiddo has been one me to read this one, and it checks off one of the boxes on my summer reading bingo card.
I also have some more ARCS that I need to get to reading. I've read 2, and somehow have acquired 3 more. I'll be rotating those in with my bingo card book.
Obsessing: I've been making a list of books to read/listen to, crafts to make, and figuring out ways to keep myself occupied on our train trip in a few weeks.
