This book was a a quick read that was super cute. Maggie, Jake and Maverick are the perfect trio to make you laugh and root for their happy ending.
Maggie's late husband Steven purchased a home for them in Blue Alder Cove. They both loved visiting the small town in the summers, and the plan was to retire there. However, not too long after he surprised her with the house, Steven passed away unexpectedly. Maggie hasn't been to the house since.
A storm comes through and does some damage, so Maggie so forced to go back and check up on the house. There are plenty of renovations that need to be done, both from the storm and just years of sitting unoccupied and Maggie is ready to tackle the project.
Enter Jake. Jake is the town handyman, who runs his family's hardware store. While Jake had big plans of leaving the small town, life circumstances kept him home. As he goes to check on Maggie's house and see what all needs to be done, he doesn't expect to run into a woman versus a raccoon where the woman is swinging a large piece of wood that he has to duck to avoid getting knocked out by. Of course, that's when Maverick (the dog) decides to run in to "help".
Maggie uses the renovations to do something for herself. Not only does she learn new skills while helping Jake, but she uses the documentation of the renovations to begin blogging again, and her readers, friends, and locals in town love following along with the renovations.
With encouraging from her friends back home, her friends in town, and her daughter, Maggie wonders what it would be like if she stayed. She loves the small town dynamic and loves helping out and taking part in all of the activities. It also helps that a certain prickly handyman seems to warm up to a sunshiny window who has a plethora of dog treats on hand for a certain pup.
Maggie ponders the deep things in this book such as, is there a quote for the amount of love we can receive in a lifetime and is there anything a good cup of Joe can't fix. Both valid things to ponder. Grab yourself a cup of coffee (or beverage of your choice) and settle in for a quick read that is sure to make you smile.
