Weekly recaps are back, and with their own fancy schmazcy header. The weekly recaps got put on hold because of our train excursions and catching y'all up on the family vacation, but it's good to be back.
So, early this month I finally got a new laptop, so since this one doesn't take ages to pull up a website or an app, I've been playing around more with Canva. It's also a touch screen, so I feel super cool (and way out of my element) and have had a hard time adjusting to using a mouse at work 🤣
HIGH: The high was easy for me to pick this week, it was my birthday! Between all the birthday wishes from family and friends, the freebies from all the different company rewards programs I've signed up for (and I'm still working my way through them!), and spending time with my family, it was great. And special thanks to my friends in women's basketball who bought me this cake because they found out that my office hadn't bought me anything for my birthday. 🤗
LOW: This was the first year that I actually went to work on my birthday. I went because I had been out for almost 2 weeks leading up to it, and felt guilty for taking another day off so soon...even though I have plenty of leave time.
HA: The ha for my week and for the next few weeks, is me realizing how many ARCs I have to read and review because apparently I've made that my personality until at least September if you look at publishing dates. So I'm trying to tell myself that I'm not allowed to request anymore until I get through all of the ones that I have ... or if their publication date is after mid-September.
COOL EATS
Ok, so we had lots of cool eats this week, but I'm going to focus on the birthday lunch from my favorite restaurant, Rocca first. These garlic knots are perfection and the whipped provolone is heavenly. I always recommend this as something people have to try if they go. I followed that with their four cheese pizza which is my absolute favorite pizza they have. When it comes out hot, I could honestly eat that whole thing and not blink. And the chocolate gelato was the perfect way to end the meal.
As for other cool things that I ate this week, it was Christmas in July at Caroline's Cookies so I treated myself. I wanted to get one of everything, but I settled on the Christmas tree cake cookie (which is essentially a Little Debbie Christmas tree cake in cookie form.)
We also went to one of my favorite Mexican spots, Zippy's. The only thing I get at Zippy's is the empanadas. I love empanadas and not many places sell them. I've taken a class on making them and know how not easy they are to make, so I respect the process. Zippy's are some of the best empanadas I've ever had so I stay loyal.
WEEKLY RUNDOWN
Ok, it's time for the weekly run down of what's been going down.
Latest Read: Most of my latest reads have all been ARCs because I mentioned earlier, apparently it's my new personality and I have a few to finish. We'll start with the ARCs, one of which you can read my review of on the blog currently and one that will be published when the book releases August 1st. Sketches of a Second Chance by Naomi Vale and Falling for the Wrong Billionaire by Josie Frost.
But I did take a return to an old favorite to give me a tiny break from reading something that I had to write a review for, Playing the Player by Beth Bolden, book 2 in her Miami Piranhas series.
Currently Reading: As I mentioned, I've got a few ARCs to work down. One of these releases on Wednesday, so I'm trying to knock that one out first. (I'm not sure if I'll make it by release day, but I'm going to try!) The other releases next Tuesday and is part of the Midlife Meet Cute series I've been going through. Both happen to be hockey related: Pucking Enemies by Katie Strong and Shot on Goal at a Second Chance by Dineen Miller.
My current audio book that I'm listening to at work is Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan.
Currently Obsessing: Layering tanks! Specifically these layering tanks that I found at Kohl's. I used my free Kohl's cash for my birthday to get one, because they were $5 and fell in love so I ordered 4 more. I told my bestie to prepare to see me in layering tanks and a jacket every day on our trip to Boston in September.
Welp, I better get to reading since these ARCs won't read themselves. Have a great week!
