ARC Season: Witches & Wine

Chelsea, a PR specialist and Dion, the god of wine and frenzy meet again when Chelsea moves to Arcane Cove for a fresh start. Dion doesn’t understand why he can’t get Chelsea off his mind. So when she texts him again after a couple of months of not texting each other, he responds and then is shocked to see her in his town. He offers to introduce her to new clients in exchange for a date.

There are wards around the town to prevent any non-magical beings from finding it, so Dion has to wonder what Chelsea is exactly .. and it’s clear she doesn’t know she is anything other than human. He meets her ferret Riley, and she tells him how she was on a run in the woods when he stood in her path and wouldn't move. This convinces Dion even more that she is not totally human, but he isn't sure what exactly.

Fast forward and we find out Chelsea is a witch! Hermes suggests to Dion that Chelsea could be his mate, and Hermes, Bruce and Thor all tell him that the signs could be big or small .. “You do all realize your help is about as useful as spectacles for a cyclops, right?” When she walks into his club, Dion knows … she is his mate.

Chelsea goes to see the high priestess to learn about her “witchiness” and gets a warning that Dion is not what he seems. The high priestess then says that it seems that she and Dion are trying to out trick each other. Chelsea gets weird because she isn’t sure who to believe.

Chelsea takes Riley with her to go see the high priestess again. The high priestess says it’s interesting that her familiar is a ferret because they are known to be tricksters. Chelsea begins to wonder if Riley is her familiar, why is he so in tune with Dion?

Chelsea and Dion finally talk it out, with Riley listening too, and Dion says that what the high priestess told her doesn’t sound like something she would say. It seems as if someone is controlling her, so the three go pay her a visit.

Turns out - it’s NOT the high priestess, but the trickster Rumplestilskin himself, playing a trick on Chelsea because he has been banished to Arcane Cove and was bored. Chelsea and Dion go into the wood to find her. While they are in the woods, Chelsea is able to communicate with her mother, who was a solar witch to Chselea’s moon witch. Her mother advises her to use her mate’s emotions to help her. Once they find the high priestess, she advises Chelsea to keep her familiar with her at all times and to find a coven.

Chelsea and Dion let the sheriff know that there is a trickster in their midst. The sheriff tells them that there was a murder the night before, and before Chelsea and Dion can do some investigating of their own, two witches appear and invite Chelsea to join their coven.

When the two come back together, Dion reminds Chelsea that the best part of living is living for the present. (“One of the best parts of living, Red, is living for the present moments.”)

This book was so much fun to read! There's some spice to it, so be prepared if that's not your science, but I loved watching Chelsea come into her own while Dion worked out why Chelesa was so hard to get off his mind. I can't wait to see where the next book in this series takes us!
