I've always been a fan of things that are a mystery. Grab bags? I'm buying it. Surprise gift with purchase of $X? I'm spending that much. Too Good To Go? How many bags can I buy before my bank account cries. So when I saw that I could see a movie that would be a mystery to me until it started playing for $6? I was sold!
I've been thinking of going to see a Mystery Movie at Movie Tavern for a while now. All you know about the movie is what it is rated, and how long the run time is. From my Reddit searching, it's usually a movie coming out within the next week or two. Most of the movies lately have been rated R, and I'm not a horror movie fan so I haven't pulled the trigger. However, this past month, there was one that was PG. I asked kiddo to join me on this adventure.
From our research, we knew that the movie was either going to be Bad Guys 2, Freakier Friday or Sketch. Reddit seemed to be leaning heavily toward Sketch as it was the only on that wasn't a sequel. (According to them, the mystery movie wouldn't be a sequel because it would require some background knowledge to enjoy.) I was hoping it wasn't Freakier Friday because to be honest, I'm not a fan of any of the Freaky Friday movies.
So, we got in and loaded up on snacks to wait and see if Reddit was right. The first preview was for Bad Guys 2 ... then the next was for Freakier Friday ... then the rest were for movies made by the same production company as Sketch - the internet was right!
We went into this having no clue what to expect from this movie and we were blown away with how much we enjoyed it. It was funny, without really meaning to be. It was a little freaky. (I mean, the monster sketches come to life and all.) And it had a really good underlying message.
We laughed, we cried, we haven't stopped yelling "I peed my pants, twice!" around the house at each other. I won't say much, because I don't want to spoil it. But this movie comes highly recommended by the Hungry Fam. It releases today, so be sure to go check it out!
