It's time to wrap up another week here at the Hungry House, and it has been a busy one. Next week is back to school for kiddo, and I'm having a hard time accepting that I have a child in high school. It seems crazy to me that I have a kid that old because it makes me old and I'm not old, just old-ish. Any who, let's wrap the week up!
HIGH: On a professional level, I was in charge of property inventory this year and I was able to find 90% of the inventory, so I felt good about that. Personally, it's one month until my trip to Boston and I'm super excited. My bestie and I need to start narrowing down the massive list of things that I have added to our spreadsheet that I made.
LOW: Lost my cool with kiddo before her friends got here for the movie marathon. Parenting is hard. Parenting an autistic kid is hard. You never know if you're doing anything right and they don't give anything away. Anytime kiddo makes a mistake, she says she is stupid and I finally just lost it. Threatened to cancel the movie day if the attitude she was giving me didn't shape up.
HA: Kiddo had her two besties over for a movie marathon of all the How to Train Your Dragon movies, and it's hard not to be infected by their laughter when it hits. Incoming high schoolers are funny. Especially when they are going through their hear me outs.
COOL EATS
So I finally broke down and tried the viral kids meal from Cava. I wasn't sure if it would be enough food because I was starving when I got it, but it was plenty enough for me.
For $7, you get a kids pita which comes with your choice of meet and two toppings, along with any dressings and sauces of your choice. (Obviously the "premium" meats will up the price.) I got the hot chicken with cabbage slaw and corn. I also got the tzatziki sauce on the side so I could control the amount on the pita. (Sometimes they put way too much on for me.) I learned I'm not the biggest fan of their cabbage slaw, so next time I'll get something else.
The meal also comes with a side of rice, which is hidden under the side of pita chips. You can also sub carrot sticks in place of the pita chips.
It also comes with a kids drink. I got the strawberry citrus drink. I wasn't too sure how I felt about it, but I did drink the whole thing. It was refreshing, but the seeds that settled at the bottom didn't really do it for me. All in all, I highly recommend getting this the next time you go to Cava because it's plenty of food for a cheaper price tag.
CHASE THE FUN
There will be a separate post dedicated to this later this week, but kiddo and I went to see a Mystery Movie at Movie Tavern. All you know going into the movie is the rating, the run time, and that it will be releasing in the next few weeks. This was our first time seeing one, and it was well worth the $6 ticket.
If you're not afraid to try something a little different, and you like movies, then definitely check one of these out! They usually do 2 of them a month, on Monday nights.
Both of the mystery movies for August are rated R, which means I will not be attending because I'm concerned they will be horror movies and I'm not a fan of those.
WEEKLY RUNDOWN
Latest Reads:
Knocked a few books off my TBR and also a few on the list of ARCs that I need to get busy reading. I finished reading the books for the Midlife Meet Cute series and these last two were so good!
Shot on Goal at a Second Chance has my first official book boyfriend in Zack. Love & Lattes at the Mermaid Cafe has a strong runner up for that position in Cade.
Alistair's Extraordinaires is a collection of moments past the Hidden Species series by Louisa Masters. This series and the spin-off series Dragon Ever After are some of my favorite books to revisit. This week the next spin-off series has it's first book released and this one is about the elves and I'm so excited! Which is why I need to catch up on the two August ARCs that I have to read so I can it next weekend.
Current Reads:
I have two ARCs that I need to finish by the end of next week, and also my book club pick. So I've kind of shifted my current reads around.
Rosie's Cantina was originally set to release September 1st, but I got an email yesterday that it's going live on Monday. I have a slight issue in that this ARC won't let me enlarge the font on book funnel, and I'm having a real hard time reading it (literally) but I plan to push through! Faceless Devotion is the first book in a new series and it's set to drop on August 15th.
The Anthropocene Review is our book club read for August. I waited for the audio book to be available for this one because I felt it would be a better listen.
Obsessing Over:
Really trying to start narrowing down the itinerary for the Besties Do Boston trip in a month. I feel I've put enough on the spreadsheet of ideas for us to spend a month in New England, so we're about to have to make some tough decisions.
Also, I have a high schooler now. How.Did.This.Happen.
