Y'all, it was a busy week in the Hungry House! Kiddo has signed up for some new clubs at school, and one of them is Club Med - which means she is assisting the athletic trainers for the sports teams. So we have a whole new world of football practice and football games in our future. I'll be the parent who pops on an audio book and starts walking around to get some steps in because I'm not the biggest football fan ... or maybe I'll be the person who gets caught on their kindle or with a book in the stands. First scrimmage is this week, so I'll let y'all know how that goes.
But enough of the future, let's get to this week's recap:
HIGH: I hosted book club at my house. This is a huge deal, because I usually don't invite people into my sanctuary of solitude. Our book clubs are all potluck style, and I served these delightful pimento cheese arancini - found in the frozen food section at Wal-Mart. LOW: Honestly, I can't really think of a low for the week. I'm bummed that I couldn't join my bestie in Vegas to see the Backstreet Boys, but I am so pumped for her to get to spend that time with her mom that I can't really call it a low because I've loved seeing her pictures and videos!
HA: Between book club and YANO (young adults night out ... young being a relative term), there were so many laughs from the stories that people told. Especially laughs from the reviews we did for book club, that led to us just giving star ratings to everything, which then led us to fits of laughter.
COOL EATS
First stop on the cool eats train are these boards from Bldg 5. My friend Kylee's birthday was this week, so we did a lot of sharing and these boards were *chef's kiss*
We follow that up with this eggroll and fries combo I got (self made combo) at Bao, a local Vietnamese restaurant that we went to for YANO. Get friends who don't mind when you order authentically and always get fries if they are on the menu because, why not.
WEEKLY RUNDOWN
Latest Reads: These are a few of my latest reads. Two new releases and one ARC.
Outlier by Susie Tate is a book that I've been waiting for! Ever since Vicky's character was introduced in previous books, I always wanted her to get her happy ending. Being autistic it isn't always easy for her to read and navigate social situations, and I thought Tate did a good job of representing her character well.
Respectfully Yours, Cain by Maya Alden. The Respectfully Yours series of novellas have been fun reads. Alden is great at writing the grovel and these guys are all having to work hard with it! Cain's book is my favorite of the three because Faith is actually pretty funny when life isn't 💩ing on her.
Slowing Down Amelia by Dana Harp is an ARC that I finished this week and I can't wait for it to be released so I can share more! It's about two teenagers who want to have the best summer ever before entering high school and it comes with some surprises and lessons they didn't see coming.
Current Reads: Two of these are for book clubs and one is an ARC. I know I said I was going to start the ARC for Semi Sweet last week, but I had a slight change of plans with that.
For my church book club, next month is my pick with is Ask for Andrea. I started it this week, and I can tell it's going to have me hooked.
Love, Mom is my work book club's pick. I've heard there is a twist that I probably won't see coming and everyone else had it on their TBRs so I'm wondering what hype I missed!
Playing Now: My Spotify day list this morning is pretty rocking and has the best name - Punk Cover Office Music Saturday Morning. However, with how heavy it is with Rob Thomas and Matchbox Twenty, I'm not sure Spotify knows what punk music actually is.
Currently Watching: Fit for TV: The Reality of the Biggest Loser. This show had a chokehold on me when it first came out, and I watched it for most of it's run. I also knew in the later seasons that it was not necessarily the healthiest of ways to lose weight. So I'm very interested to see what the people who were on it have to say about it now.
Obsessing Over: Less than one month to go for Boston, and I'm getting even more excited that this trip will be a Side Quests of Boston and not a Touristy Boston trip.
