This was a cute romance with the jock x nerd vibe where the hockey player has been pining from the TA in his statistics class for months. And by pining, I mean constantly staring at the TA when he is in his vicinity.
Killian is in his final year of college and needs a tutor to help him understand statistics so he can continue to play. Maddox wants nothing to do with jocks and initially shuts Killian down for tutoring, until he loses a bet to Killian and becomes his tutor.
While Killian is all in from day one, it takes Maddox a while to warm up to him. Although from their banter, you would think they had known each other forever.
While they may not have much in common as far as interests go, they have a lot in common on how they handle stress. Killian tends to put on a happy face and downplay his struggles with his father’s expectations, while Maddox pushes everyone away and retreats when his high school bully comes back to haunt him.
I loved that Caleb helped Maddox see that it’s not so bad to have a boyfriend who would go scorched Earth on anyone who tried to hurt you. I also loved how Maddox made a point to be there for Killian when he told his dad what he wanted to do with his life.
I read this book in a day because I could not get enough of Killian! He is a ridiculously adorable, life of the party character. I loved how he would shed the happy facade he gives the world for Maddox and that both characters got to be seen for everything they are.
