Weekly Check-In

Not gonna lie, I really thought this was the last week of May but we still have a whole week left to go. This month has both flown by and dragged and I can't tell which one it is while I'm in it. But enough of my lack of knowing where I am or what day it is, let's get to the recap.

HIGH:
After many months away, I was finally able to go back to Silent Book Club! It was a banner day because I had a great dentist visit, then took myself out for a solo dinner date at my favorite pizza place in the city, and then met up with one of my friends for happy hour and silent book club.

LOW: So I was bring a responsible adult and took my car in for it's mileage check-up. Let's not act like this is something I do often. I have NEVER done this and now that it's at almost 65k miles and the warranty is over, I got a feeling in my gut I should take it in.

I may have blacked out after a mini panic attack hearing that I need almost $2500 in work done. So lesson learned, be sure to take your vehicles in for those mileage check ups.  And a special thanks to my parents for the loan to be able to pay for this.

On a plus side, they have this lovely Nightmare Before Christmas tree at the service part of the dealership, and everyone there is super nice.

HA: My co-worker has a walking pad in her office, so she can get some steps in when she has to be on zooms. She asked me to come in to help brainstorm on a project and I asked it I could use the walking pad. She told me to have at it and then our boss walked by and couldn't help but laugh and ask and I told him I paid for my gym membership with my ideas, so it was cool. I found that way funnier than anyone probably should.

COOL EATS

Dubai Chocolate Covered Strawberries -
Not gonna lie, I've never really had a desire to jump on the viral Dubai chocolate sensation. I think it's the green that throw me off from a visual perspective. Also, I realized that I've never actually tried anything with pistachio in it before. And I have to google whatever the other part of it is.

However, they had a local vendor doing a popup at Silent Book Club selling these Dubai chocolate covered strawberries. My friend who I met up with there, LOVES the Dubai chocolate. She had also tried these same strawberries at the Asian Night Market that Baton Rouge had and told me that they had initially sold out in just under 2 hours.

With her vouching for them, I went ahead and gave them a try and they were so good! Our only complaint was we needed a knife to cut the strawberries because it got awkward to eat wit them being so big.

CHASING THE FUN

Solo Date/Silent Book Club - Before meeting up with my friend for silent book club, I took myself to a late lunch/early dinner at Rocca. I like Rocca because they have wood fire pizzas and their four cheese pizza is hands down my favorite in the city. And it happens to be one of the pizzas that they offer during happy hour for half off! I went all out with an appetizer, pizza, dessert and cappuccino. Their black truffle popcorn is only offered during happy hour, so of course I had to snag that. And the dark chocolate budino is worth going for just a sweet treat. Add a coffee with it for an afternoon fika!

LAST READ: Regretfully Yours, Ansel by Maya Alden was a super quick grovel to happy ever after novella. I have also started a re-read of the Blue Ridge Magic series. I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH! M.A. Innes writes some hilarious characters, and Kenzie logic is what makes this first book so fun to read. Warning: if you aren't into dragons who can shift or age play, then this series might not be for you.

CURRENT READ: Love Letters to a Serial Killer by Tasha Coryell is one that I tried to start on audio but couldn't get into it. I check it out from the library and since I got almost through Part One at Silent Book Club, it's made it easier for me to alternate between the audio and physical copy. Iron Flame will be the death of me, but I'm committed.

ON REPEAT:
The 20th Anniversary collaboration of On The Way Down. Ryan Cabrera brought in some of the biggest names of the 90s on this one and it takes me back and makes me happy.

WATCHING: We've been keeping up with the NCAA Softball Super Regionals to see who makes it to Oklahoma City for the Women's College World Series! Being there with a team was one of the coolest parts of my career, and the side quests that I went on made it a trip to remember.

We're also watching the NHL playoffs and rooting for Brad Marchand (since the Bruins did him dirty and traded him and I can't make myself root for the Panthers as a whole)
